Connect Claude, Cursor or Grok Bot to Switchbooks
October 4, 2026By Ryland Beard
Switchbooks works inside the AI assistant you already use. Claude, Cursor and Grok Bot can read your books, run reports, and, if you allow it, make bookkeeping changes you can undo.
You need a Switchbooks account with access to at least one company. If you have several companies, the assistant asks which one to work in.
Claude
- Open Switchbooks in the Claude directory and click Connect. On a Team or Enterprise account, your organization owner may need to add it first.
- Sign in to Switchbooks and review what the connection may do. The box Let it make changes to the books is on when the app asked for it. Untick it for a read-only connection, then choose Allow access.
- In a chat, enable Switchbooks from + → Connectors. Ask "List my Switchbooks companies," then "Use [company name]" before asking about your books.
If you would rather add it by hand, open Customize → Connectors, click +, choose Add custom connector, name it Switchbooks, and enter the server URL https://app.switchbooks.ai/api/mcp.
Cursor
- Open Switchbooks in the Cursor marketplace and add it to Cursor.
- Sign in to Switchbooks when Cursor opens the browser, review what the connection may do, and allow access.
- In a chat, ask "List my Switchbooks companies," then "Use [company name]" to start.
Grok Bot
- In Grok Bot, open Settings → Plugins → Marketplace and search for Switchbooks.
- Install the plugin and sign in to Switchbooks in your browser when prompted. Review what the connection may do and allow access.
- Ask your Bot "List my Switchbooks companies," then "Use [company name]" to start.
Switchbooks is a Grok Bot plugin. It is not available in Grok chat.
Questions to try
- "For [company name], show last month's profit and loss."
- "Compare this quarter's expenses with the previous quarter."
- "Find transactions paid to [payee name] this year."
- "What is sitting in To Review?"
Say "Use [another company name]" to switch companies. Check the company named in the results when you work across several sets of books.
What the connection can and cannot do
A read-only connection can search transactions, list categories, payees, rules, and accounts, and run report summaries. It cannot change anything.
A connection you allowed to make changes can also post and split To Review rows, match transfers, book journal entries, create categories, payees, and rules, reconcile from a preview, and attach files. Supported changes can be undone from the same chat.
No connection can connect a bank, send email or invitations, share a report, merge accounts, delete files, or remove teammates. Those happen in the Switchbooks app.
Disconnect
In Claude, open Customize → Connectors, select Switchbooks, and disconnect it. In Cursor, remove it from your MCP settings. In Grok Bot, remove the plugin from Settings → Plugins. If you connected with a personal token instead, open Switchbooks Settings → MCP and choose Revoke for that token.
